Unforgettable experiences
Halloween night at Dracula's Castle in Transylvania
On 31 October, Bran Castle stays awake long after the ordinary visitors have left. The rooms go dark, actors move through the corridors, the Royal Park turns into a party and one of Europe's most famous castles finally looks exactly like people imagine it should.
Why this one works
The setting does most of the work
Plenty of places build temporary haunted houses for October. Bran starts with narrow staircases, heavy timber, stone walls and a fortress finished in the 14th century. By late afternoon, the Carpathian light disappears quickly behind the hills. There is very little scenery to invent.
The castle's Halloween programme leans into that advantage. For 2026, Bran is running Halloween events from 24 October through 1 November, with the main night on Saturday 31 October. That is the evening when the programme expands beyond the daytime tour and continues into parties after midnight.
It also happens in a village small enough that the castle remains the obvious centre of the night. You arrive in Bran for one reason. By 04:00, when the late party ends, that single reason has filled most of the trip.

Bran is more interesting when you know where the legend ends and the building begins. The present stone castle was completed in 1388 and controlled the pass between Transylvania and Wallachia. Centuries later it became a royal residence for Queen Marie of Romania.
The Dracula connection is much looser. Bram Stoker's Count Dracula is fictional, and the castle itself says Vlad the Impaler played no significant role in Bran's history. The association grew later because the castle resembles the Transylvanian fortress described in the novel.
That distinction makes the evening better, not worse. During the day you can look at Bran as an actual medieval fortress. After sunset, the invented Dracula story is allowed to take over for a few hours.
Choose the version
The ticket changes the whole evening
01
New Moon
A daytime Halloween tour on 31 October with darker lighting, special effects and performers inside the castle. The official 2026 event page lists entry between 09:00 and 17:00.
02
Blood Moon
The evening version: a Halloween tour between 18:00 and 20:00, followed by the Royal Park party from 21:00 until 04:00 with two DJs, projections, photo areas and a costumed crowd.
03
Eclipse
The smallest and most elaborate option. It includes the Halloween tour plus a private party inside Bran Castle from 23:00 until 04:00, with buffet and open bar. The castle limits this package to 100 guests.
After sunset
The corridors are the part you will remember
The evening tour uses the castle itself as the route. Special effects, performers and low lighting are placed through rooms that already feel tight in daylight. There are no enormous purpose-built sets to hide behind. Doors, staircases and old stone keep appearing at close range.
The castle warns visitors about flashing lights, loud noise, claustrophobic spaces, low temperatures and slippery walkways or stairs. That warning is useful. This is still an old fortress on a hill, and Halloween does not make its surfaces flatter or its passages wider.
If you choose Blood Moon, the mood changes again after the tour. Guests are led into the Royal Park for the late party. Eclipse keeps the smaller party inside the castle itself. At that point the experience has moved a long way from an ordinary museum visit.
Getting there
Brașov is the useful base
Bran Castle is 30 kilometres from Brașov. The castle lists the drive at roughly 35 minutes in normal conditions. Regular buses leave from Brașov Bus Station No. 2 for Bran–Moeciu; the published journey time is about 50 minutes.
From Bucharest, the castle lists the road distance as 160 kilometres. Another option is the train to Brașov and then a bus or taxi for the final stretch to Bran.
Halloween night changes the calculation. A party finishing at 04:00 makes a late return to another city awkward, so accommodation in Bran or nearby removes a transport problem at the exact moment you will least want one.
What to take
Dress for an old castle at the end of October
A warm layer — late October nights in Bran can feel cold, especially after midnight
Shoes with grip for stone paths, stairs and potentially slippery surfaces
Your ticket saved offline as well as on your phone
A compact power bank
A small bag rather than luggage
A costume if you are staying for the party
The reason to go
For one night, the place and the date line up perfectly
Bran Castle can be visited on an ordinary Tuesday morning. The same rooms will be there, and the history will be easier to study. Halloween gives the castle a completely different use.
Arrive early enough to understand the real building. Stay after dark for the version built around Dracula, costumes and the atmosphere people travelled to Transylvania hoping to find. That contrast is what makes 31 October here worth planning a trip around.
